At my house we subscribe to Runner’s World magazine. Every year, the cover of the January issue has some version of that very hopeful headline: “New Year, New You!” or “Make This The Best Year of Your Life!” or “Run Your Way to Happiness This Year!” The headline is often followed with the promise of an easy to follow bullet list…
December 25 | Amazed Read: Luke 2:25-33 Reflect: What is the most fragile-yet-beautiful thing you’ve ever held? Act: What hope has emerged or been strengthened in you this season? Share that at your table today, no matter how small.
December 24 | Snug Read: Luke 2:8-20 Reflect: Who or what comforts you when things are difficult? How do you provide comfort to others? Act: Donate a coat. Share a blanket with someone close. Give hugs.
December 23 | Promise Read: Luke 2:1-7 Reflect: What decisions do you want to make for yourself, and which would you willingly defer to another? Act: Work on finishing one commitment you made. Get it done before the year is up.
December 22 | Branch Read: Jeremiah 33:14-16 Reflect: How do you fit in your family of origin? What makes you similar, and what makes you different? Act: Pick up the phone and call someone from your family from whom you are distanced. Bless them.
December 21 | House Read: Psalm 115:9-13 Reflect: Of all the places you’ve lived, where is home for you? What makes that place the most important? Act: Invite someone to your holiday table who is away from home.
December 20 | Divine Read: Genesis 1:24-27, 31 Reflect: When is it easiest for you to believe you are created in God’s image? When is it a struggle? Act: Look for the divine in those you encounter today and see if that changes how you relate/react.
December 19 | Dawn Read: Luke 1:68-79 Reflect: At what time have you most looked forward to a new day? Act: Get to sleep early tonight so you can watch the sunrise tomorrow.
December 18 | Love Read: Luke 1:46b-55 Reflect: At what time has a gesture of love made you dream with hope for the future? Act: Be gracious today. Do something that will change one person’s tomorrow.
