DESCRIPTION:3:00 pm in the Sanctuary (Click here to download and view the flyer for this event!) \nTong-Bai Deng was born in Chicago in 2008. He started to learn piano with Ms. Ludmilla Derka when he was six. He participated in various piano competitions and concerts and won many first prizes. He took private lessons with Dr. Sung Hoon Mo at the Chicago Conservatory of Music in 2018-2019 and began studying with Dr. Svetlana Smolina in 2019 until now. In addition to piano studies\, Tong-Bai Deng has also studied conducting with Dr. Maxim Kuzin since 2019. He is an active member of the school band and the high school chamber music team. \nAwards \n2023\, the 10th of the Global Outstanding Chinese Artists Association (GOCAA)\, Silver Medal of the Professional Group B. \n2022\, The Triumph Music Festival\, First Prize Winner of Concerto and Chamber music Competition in Division II: Ages 13-15 \n2022\, The LONDON INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION\, First Prize \n2022\, The 2022 Pelican International Music Competition for Young Artists Open Piano Contemporary\, First Prize \n2022\, The 2021 CHARLESTON INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION (piano solo age 12-13)\, First Prize\, also be awarded as the 2021 Piano Most Exceptional Performer. \n2021\, The Barum Music International Competition ( age 13 and under)\, First Prize \n2021\, The Colibri International Arts Competition for Young Performers in Los Angeles\, CA ( age 12-14 group)\, First Prize \n2021\, The Russian Music Award at the Triumph Music Festival in Philadelphia\, PA. Lorenz will be concluding the summer tour of his program “Chopin & Rachmaninoff Live” which features several Chopin classics alongside the rarely-heard complete 13 Preludes op. 32 by Rachmaninoff. \nA native of Fargo\, North Dakota\, Lorenz has grown in demand as a classical performer since moving to Chicago in 2019\, studying with renown pianists Edward Auer\, Junghwa Moon Auer\, and Adam Neiman at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. Now performing around the Midwest\, Lorenz is also established in genres like cabaret and as well maintains a position on the piano faculty at the New Music School\, Chicago’s premier academy for pre-college music. \nOnce labeled as a “dynamite performer” with “meticulous” attention to “big-picture” ideas\, Lorenz’s live performances have been praised for their “electrifying” energy and massive scope. The Ministry for Change recently approved a $15\,500 grant from the accumulated proceeds of the Global Mission portion of the fund to complete important needed repairs at the Mike Solberg School in Waku Kungo\, Angola. The school serves 779 K-8 students\, and this grant will improve and sustain their learning environment!
