Our Whole Lives

Our Whole Lives is a comprehensive, age-appropriate sexuality curriculum designed to teach kids about self-esteem, bodily autonomy, and healthy relationships. A sexuality education program for kids might sound strange (and in a church no less!), but we believe that bodies are created in the image of God to experience connection, joy, and pleasure. So why do we teach this to kids? Because our development as sexual beings begins at birth–and so does our culture’s negative messaging about bodies and sexuality. Here at Union Church, we offer Our Whole Lives programs for preschoolers, 4th and 5th graders, and middle schoolers. The curriculum was developed by the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalists in conjunction with the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) to provide kids with accurate, values-based education about their bodies so that they will be better equipped to lead healthy, spiritually fulfilling lives.

If you’d like to learn more about the curriculum, you can go directly to the Our Whole Lives website, or contact Victoria Wick, one of Union Church’s Our Whole Lives facilitators, at vwick@uchinsdale.org for more information. We’d love to hear from you!
