Season of Lent
Lent is a time of spiritual preparation for the great observances of Good Friday
Our theme for Lent will be “Revealing Life,” and we will be exploring how Jesus
reveals true life to us, and how our true lives are revealed through Jesus.
Because the season of Lent originated as a 40 day period of intense preparation
for baptism (which took place as the sun rose on Easter), Mike will begin with the
story of Jesus’s baptism from the Gospel of Mark, and the enduring importance of
God’s benediction upon Jesus: With you I am well pleased! In baptism, true life is
The online service will premier at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, of course, and
you can find the service on our YouTube Channel, here.
Here’s how we’re celebrating this year…
Faithful By the Fireside In-Person Outdoor Services (Sundays
9:07am in the Close)
Looking IN So We Can Better Look OUT
As we move into Lent, our 9:07 service will focus on faith practices
during this Lenten season. Designed with families in mind, each
Sunday the 9:07 service will be focused on a different faith practice
that matches the practices in your basket. Exploring our spiritual
selves through faith practices can help families know how to go about
making their relationship with God a part of the day-to-day life for
both parents and children.
Our in-person, outdoor 9:07 service is a kid-friendly, brief gathering
that meets in the Close (the courtyard off Garfield) around a
fire. Bundle up, mask up, and join us!
In-Person Morning and Evening Prayer (Wednesdays during Lent –
7:15 a.m. in the Close & 7:15 p.m. in the sanctuary & online)
In the spiritual tradition of Lent, we will have morning and evening
prayer on Wednesdays during Lent, beginning on February 24. As
the name suggests, these will be short services (15 mins) of prayer
and scripture, focused on the beginning and ending of the days, and
centering our lives in the love of God, who reveals to us true life.
The morning services will be in the Close (outdoors, masked and
distanced), and the evening services will be in the sanctuary (indoors,
masked and distanced), and streamed online.
