Guatemala Mission Trip 2024: Update #4

Where does one begin when each day is so filled with learning and friendship. Tuesday, June 17th began when Trayce divided us into well balanced teams to build a smokeless stove for a deserving Mayan family. Our family is multigenerational and lives on ancestral land that has been in the family for decades. As they have worked their land they have discovered Mayan relics so started a small museum which they showed us.

After all the hard work we are treated to lunch, a delicious lentil soup, at Fredy’s Dreams and Hopes Center. We are able to see his Abejitas program in action in the beautiful garden setting.
Hearing his life story and learning about all he has accomplished is humbling.

As the Penguin Lady I present my Keynote penguin program in the afternoon to a bubbly, curious group of students. Thankfully Trayce translate my commentary to a well behaved children. I introduce them to stuffed penguins I have brought to enhance their experience. After their questions are answered everyone works on the penguin art project. While coloring we surprise them with penguin stickers and gummy penguin candy. They excited to share the candy with their family.

We complete the busy day with dinner at Fredy and Chika’s newly opened coffee shop. Needles to say it was scrumptious.

Reflecting upon the day and the beautiful Mayan families I feel privileged to have been a part of this worthwhile mission.
